Home Improvement – Hardwood Floor Installation Tips

The durability and look of hardwood floors are a big reason to use this type of flooring when replacing the floor covering in an interior room or commercial space. Hardwood flooring doesn’t do as well with humidity. You should use special cleaners and finishes for hardwoods made specifically for use in areas where humidity is a problem.

Many types of wood floors can be cleaned by simply wiping with a damp mop. However, some types of flooring such as engineered hardwoods should never be cleaned with water; instead, they should be installed only in a dry area. If you plan on installing your new floor in an interior room or commercial space, you will be best off choosing engineered hard wood species or a different type of floor which does not react negatively to high humidity levels.

In terms of how much it will cost to replace the floor coverings, it is worth bearing in mind that hardwoods require more maintenance than carpet or tile. You may want to consider a floor coat that will protect the floor throughout its lifespan. For example, if you have a carpet stains which cannot be removed by simple cleaning with detergent, it may be advisable to buy a floor cover which is specially designed for this type of stain.

There are two basic kinds of floor coverings for hardwoods – a layer under the new floor or a protective finish over the surface. Both types will provide good protection against stains, however if you wish to stain the new floor before installation, then you will need to ensure that the stain is completely dried before placing any hardwood sealer on the surface of the new floor. This is because the sealant may have absorbed into the wood itself and is now preventing the stain from drying and cracking. Once you have applied the sealant you will then be able to remove it if desired.

Hardwoods come in many shapes and sizes, so finding the right one for your needs is not a problem. You can choose between solid hardwoods, veneers, or subflooring. Depending on what you need your new floor to protect you from is also going to determine the size, shape, and size of the floor coverings that you need to install. Hardwoods can be used on their own, in conjunction with other floor types or in the construction of a complete floor covering.

Before making any decision on what type of floor coverings you are going to need you should check out the prices, benefits, and the quality of the floor. It may be worthwhile consulting with an expert flooring guy to help you choose the best option for your particular situation. It will also make sure that the installation goes as smoothly as possible, especially if you are installing the floor on a newly-built home.
